We recently reported the rise of bullshit studies, first exposited by Gary L. Hardcastle and George A. Reisch in their book Bullshit and Philosophy, in which thinkers “respond to bullshit”. The editors acknowledged a debt to Harry G. Frankfurt, author of On Bullshit, and the book received the recommendation of Laura Penny, who pioneered the genre in Your Call is Important to Us: The Truth about Bullshit.

Colin McGinn, author of The Making of a Philosopher, has steered the mode of thinking into new realms with his latest book, Mindfucking. A reading of On Bullshit motivated McGinn to “investigate the concept more thoroughly. It now seems to me a concept with a future.”

If you feel inhibited about asking for Mindfucking in a bookshop, you could try ordering it from Amazon, though even there you might encounter difficulty. We were first offered Ocean of Lard: Choose your own Mindfuck fest, together with the information that “Customers who bought this item also bought The Baby Jesus Butt Plug, The Menstruating Mall, War Slut and The Haunted Vagina.”
