Virgo-born Samuel Johnson (1709–1784) was a versatile virtuoso. He excelled as an essayist, biographer, playwright, editor, poet, and lexicographer. How did he get so much done? Here’s one clue. He took his own advice, summed up in the following quote: “It is common to overlook what is near by keeping the eye fixed on something remote. Present opportunities are neglected and attainable good is slighted by minds busied in extensive ranges and intent upon future advantages." Johnson’s counsel is perfect for you right now, Virgo. Forget about the future and be focused on the present. Dive into the interesting work and play that’s right in front of you.

Assume that your drive to experience pleasure isn't a barrier to your spiritual growth, but is in fact essential to it. Proceed on the hypothesis that cultivating joy can make you a more ethical and compassionate person. Imagine that feeling good has something important to teach you every day.

Martha Stewart Featured As 2023 SI Swimsuit Cover Model https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2023/05/15/martha-stewart-featured-2023-si-swimsuit-cover-model

Last year trans, this year gilf, that covers half my family. But as TJ put it, "cis men have been jerking off to my category forever so it's hard to think of that as progress".

When my kids were young, my primary goal was safety and joy. A happy modest life was my heart's desire. I surrounded us with the kind of magic that is Home. Staring at the spinning ceiling fan against the glittered plaster over my bed, listening to lightening rolling down the gorge, I could create havens for me and them and briefly even for another adult..  But it was the adult I failed. And now that they're adults, I can't work magic for my kids anymore either.

Life is so fucking short. Before you know it, it has "turned out" however it did, has become what it is.

Doesn't it feel like it will be over before you've had enough chances?

I put in a solid offer over asking, in cash, not making the same mistakes I did in Minerva. And/yet I got dicked around -  backed into a corner of a bidding war = very clear very quickly what I really could do (who rely on) and not (who not).  Unsurprising, on all counts. But it's useful to flush all the truths out from time to time, like bleeding air from your radiators. Eh?

I'll know Wednesday if I won the war, and meanwhile I figured out how to manage the battles again by my own.

Some things never change. For instance, me. #rocketupmyass as soon as the weather breaks.

Ears, tho, is changing. Gonna quit academia, apprenticing himself to tradesmen, wants to learn to remodel / carpentry. Spending his free time rebuilding things to teach himself...

My mother is sick. Nerve wracking af.

And my daughter, lord Jesus give me patience. 🤦‍♀️

You'd think this whole getting engaged thing would cheer me up but it just annoys the fuck out of me. How the hell is "oh but now we are in it together" from a man 1000 miles away supposed to make me happier about a fucking thing? And if he were here, I'm quite certain I'd have one more thing just driving me fucking crazy, even worse. I mean as if his existence in itself somehow magically gives me less to worry about or deal with!? Who thinks like that?!?! Someone who has had a rom com lobotomy? 🤨 Reminds me of that moronic "bride" baseball hat Low Cunning gave me. Gaslighting me 🤨

Stop a second.

Think.

When is the last time you articulated what you were thinking and feeling to another person? Like, even by half let alone all of it?

If you aren't doing that on the reg, like daily ish, then, who KNOWS you? How??

I want to know how be known without having to talk much.

I tried out the AI that has everybody freaking out. I asked it to write a story about me. Its choice of the name "John" was its own...

Once upon a time, in a remote village nestled between mountains and lakes, there lived a witch named Wantdog. She was a solitary woman who preferred the company of her books and music to that of the townsfolk. Wantdog's cottage was hidden deep in the woods, and few dared to venture that far. However, there was one constant companion by her side, her beloved familiar, a dog named Disco.

Disco was no ordinary dog. He possessed a keen intellect and an unwavering loyalty to his mistress. Together, they spent their days exploring the forests and playing in the lakes. Disco had an insatiable appetite for adventure, and Wantdog was happy to indulge him. However, there was one activity that Wantdog loved more than anything else - reading.

Wantdog was an avid reader, and her cottage was lined with shelves upon shelves of books. She spent most of her days lost in the pages of her favorite novels and treatises. Disco would curl up beside her, content to listen to the rustling of the pages and the occasional murmur of delight.

Despite her love for solitude, Wantdog had not always been alone. There had been men in her life, men who had loved her and whom she had loved in return. However, those relationships had always been short-lived. Wantdog was fiercely independent, and few men could handle her sharp tongue and unyielding will.

One day, a young man stumbled upon Wantdog's cottage while exploring the woods. His name was John, and he was a bard who traveled the land, singing songs and telling tales. Wantdog was immediately taken with him, and they spent many days talking about books and music and their shared love of the mountains and lakes.

Disco, however, was suspicious of John. He sensed that the bard's intentions were not pure, that he sought to take Wantdog away from the peace and quiet of her cottage. Wantdog ignored Disco's warnings, and soon enough, John proposed to her. Wantdog accepted, and they planned to leave the village together.

However, on the day of their departure, Wantdog had a change of heart. She realized that she could not leave her beloved cottage and her faithful companion, Disco. She called off the wedding, and John left the village, heartbroken.

Wantdog returned to her quiet life, content in the knowledge that she had made the right decision. She continued to spend her days lost in books and music, with Disco by her side. And though she never found love again, she knew that she was happy with the life she had chosen.

From that day on, Wantdog and Disco lived happily ever after, wandering the woods and playing in the lakes, content in their solitude and their love for each other.

I don't have a songtrack for that horseshit

"Archaic Torso of Apollo"

We cannot know his legendary head

with eyes like ripening fruit. And yet his torso
is still suffused with brilliance from inside,
like a lamp, in which his gaze, now turned to low,

gleams in all its power. Otherwise
the curved breast could not dazzle you so, nor could
a smile run through the placid hips and thighs
to that dark center where procreation flared.

Otherwise this stone would seem defaced
beneath the translucent cascade of the shoulders
and would not glisten like a wild beast's fur:

would not, from all the borders of itself,
burst like a star: for here there is no place
that does not see you. You must change your life.
